Strain Measurement of a Pressure Line
Piping systems transporting natural gas are sometimes exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical loads. Especially where pressure losses are compensated by so-called compressor stations, temperature changes of several hundred degrees lead to thermally induced expansions, which must be prevented by suitably dimensioned compensator elements. A practical deformation analysis was performed by use of optical 3D measurement systems from the company GLM. For this purposes, the actual deformations were recorded at various machine states and compared with the " cold" initial state over a period of several days. Neither prisms nor reflective films could be used due to the high temperatures. Therefore, all measurements were made "reflectorless" on selected metal panels. The reproducibility of the three-dimensional results were better than 1 mm.
